Birth control, which is also called contraception, includes any method, medication, or device you use to prevent unplanned pregnancy.

Though you have many birth control options, some choices are more effective at preventing pregnancy than others. Additionally, some forms of birth control offer other health benefits.

Dedicated to meeting all of her patients’ needs, Dr. Khoo offers every type of birth control available.

What are my birth control options?

Dr. Khoo uses many types of birth control to meet a wide range of family planning needs. These include IUDs, implants, pills, rings, and surgical options.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs)

IUDs are a form of long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) that Dr. Khoo implants in your uterus. They work by stopping ovulation or preventing sperm from reaching your egg. Depending on the type, IUDs prevent pregnancy for 3-10 years.

Hormonal implants

Birth control implants are also LARCs that prevent unwanted pregnancy for up to three years. For this type of birth control, Dr. Khoo uses Nexplanon®, which she implants under the skin in your upper arm.

Birth control pills

Birth control pills are short-acting hormonal methods of contraception that prevent pregnancy by stopping your ovaries from releasing an egg.

Dr. Khoo may also prescribe birth control pills to help manage gynecological conditions such as fibroids or endometriosis.

Vaginal rings

The birth control ring is also a short-acting hormonal form of birth control that stops the release of eggs during ovulation.

Surgical options

For women searching for a more permanent method of birth control, Dr. Khoo offers the surgical options of tubal ligation. During the procedure, she cuts or blocks the fallopian tubes, which prevents your egg from meeting up with sperm for fertilization.

How do I know what type of contraception is right for me?

Dr. Khoo is an experienced OB/GYN and works closely with you to help you find the type of birth control that’s right for you.

During your family planning consultation, she asks detailed questions about your current and future pregnancy plans, as well as your gynecological and sexual history.
